Stop the proposed Moray Firth Flow Park
The Issue
Growing up in the coastal communities of Buckie, Lossiemouth, and Burghead, I've witnessed firsthand the vitality and resilience of the Moray Firth Inshore Fishing Industry. It's an industry that relies on small fishing vessels, expertly operated by generations of local fishermen. We catch langoustine and squid—delicacies that grace the tables of some of the most prestigious restaurants in the UK and across the EU. Our fishery is low-impact, sustainable, and a crucial pillar of our local economy.
Now, the proposed Moray Firth Flow Park threatens to dismantle this way of life. If these Flow Parks are developed in their preferred locations, we face the decimation of our inshore fishing industry—and this is only the beginning. The picturesque views over the Moray Firth, cherished by locals and tourists alike, will be marred by industrial structures. Moreover, the environmental impact is colossal, posing a severe threat to local wildlife and the delicate ecosystems of this unique coastal area.
The Moray Firth is not just a body of water; it is a source of livelihood, a natural treasure, and part of our identity. The proposed Flow Park development promises to disrupt the delicate balance we've maintained for generations. The installation of these structures would not only harm the beauty and biodiversity of the area but also undermine the very fabric of our community by threatening jobs and our cultural heritage.
We understand the need for renewable energy, but it must not come at the expense of communities and ecosystems that thrive on sustainability and conservation. There are alternative sites and technological solutions that can be explored without jeopardizing our industry and environment.
I am calling on the Scottish Government and the relevant authorities to halt the development of the Moray Firth Flow Park and reconsider the locations and the environmental impact of these projects.
Please join us in this crucial effort to protect the Moray Firth, safeguard our fishing industry, and preserve the natural beauty of our home. Stand with us to ensure that our voices are heard and that our heritage and environment remain intact. Sign this petition today and help us stop the proposed Moray Firth Flow Park.
