Stop the Proposed Gas Station at 191st Street and SR 37
The Issue

Our communities have recently learned about a proposal for a gas station near our neighborhoods. We’re deeply concerned that this project could have a major negative impact on both our lives and the local environment.
Gas stations are known to contribute to air and noise pollution, and the California Environmental Protection Agency has found that living near one may increase the risk of serious health problems, such as leukemia, due to benzene exposure, a harmful chemical found in gasoline (California EPA, 2016). This is a risk that none of us are willing to take, especially when it comes to the health of our families.
In addition to the health concerns, we’re also worried about how this gas station could affect our property values. Studies, such as one from the University of Toledo, show that homes near gas stations can lose 13-14% of their value (University of Toledo, 2009). Our homes are our most significant investments, and we believe it’s essential to protect their value.
We’re also concerned about the increased traffic and light pollution this gas station would bring, which would disrupt the peaceful atmosphere we’ve enjoyed for years. The World Health Organization has linked higher noise levels to sleep disturbances and increased risks to cardiovascular health.
We aren't saying 'no' to any development. We're asking for responsible development. Responsible development that considers the health, wellbeing and desires of the community.
We hope you’ll join us in recognizing the potential harm a gas station could bring to our community. By signing our petition, you can help preserve the character of our neighborhoods and protect the health and property of the families living here. Please consider supporting us in preventing this gas station from being built on 191st Street and SR 37.
