Stop the proposed development near London Road and Pewsham Way

I am a resident of Pewsham and love the many walks I take through the land next to London Road and Pewsham Way in Chippenham. For me, it's more than just fields and paths. It's a quiet, beautiful spot full of trees and wildlife, somewhere I can really connect with nature. Knowing it's now under threat is incredibly sad. I have lived in Pewsham since I was 4 years old, I am now 21 and the area has been untouched this whole time, why do this now?

Gallagher Developments and Gleeson Land have unveiled plans to transform this lush green space into an ugly development project. This would involve erecting more houses, a new school, and business premises. However, we need to reassess this decision. Pewsham already has two primary schools in the area that are operating, still with space for more students, hinting at the lack of necessity for another institution. Additionally, this would be adding to the already horrendous traffic in the area, causing even more chaos to the school and work rush and generally during the day.

Building here doesn't just eradicate trees and harm our local wildlife; it also diminishes the quality of life for the current residents. Chippenham’s charm lies in its balance between life and nature. We must retain this balance, not tip it unfavourably. Many residents have commented on the fact the town is becoming "one huge housing estate".

Chippenham should prioritize maintaining its green spaces for future generations rather than rushing into unnecessary developments motivated by financial gains. Our local ecosystem, valued scenery, and community spirit should not be compromised. Surely there are plenty of brownfield development opportunities in Wiltshire that should be considered instead of starting a new project in this greenfield area.

I urge Gallagher Developments, Gleeson Land, and local authorities to reconsider these plans. Let's explore more sustainable and community-conscious alternatives that do not jeopardize our beloved environment.

Please join me in safeguarding the future of our cherished community and landscape by signing this petition and voicing your concerns against this proposed development.
