The Issue

Dear Mayor and members of the Coachella City Council,

We are writing on behalf of concerned residents, community voices, included those represented by Daily Dunes, Coachella is home to both Toro Zambrano and Joseph Zavala, we want to express our strong opposition to the proposed data center development in Coachella.

Data centers place heavy demands on critical resources, especially water and electricity-both of which are already limited in our region. They operate 24/7, generating constant noise and increasing strain on local infrastructure, while providing relatively few permanent jobs. Projects like this can also lower property values and change the character of the community.

The resources and attention being directed toward this proposed data center project could be far better used addressing the immediate needs of our community. Instead of offering incentives to large-scale developers, the City should prioritize affordable housing, improving water infrastructure, repairing roads, sidewalks, and investing in public safety and emergency services. Funding could also support small local businesses, job training programs, youth services, and parks that directly benefit Coachella residents.

These types of investments create lasting improvements in quality of life, support working families, and strengthen the local economy. In contrast, a data center project offers limited long-term employment while placing significant demands on our water and energy resources. Our community deserves investment in projects that serves the people who live here everyday, not developments that primarily benefit outside corporations.

We urge the City of Coachella to pause any advancement of this proposal, fully disclose any financial negotiations or incentives being considered, and commit to a transparent, community first- decision making process moving forward. Our city deserves development that reflects the needs and values of its residents-not projects that risk our resources, environment and trust.

We respectfully ask you to consider the direction being taken and to prioritize the people of Coachella.

Sincerely,

Concerned Residents of Coachella
