JOIN US IN REQUESTING THE RE-OPENING OF SOUTH SHIELDS DRIVING TEST CENTRE

Ten months on from the closure in April 2022, the impacts of this closure are being felt by learner drivers. Extra lessons (needed to ensure learners can cope with challenging City routes) are causing massive financial and environmental costs to our region and our learners.

DVSA CONTINUE TO DENY THESE IMPACTS…….

Sunderland was designed to absorb South Shields over ten years ago (DVSA cannot or will not provide any impact or feasibility studies) and the road outside the test centre is heavily congested, and in our opinion, no longer a viable location for so many tests.

Test pass rates fell to 4% below national average in the first three months of the closure. The waiting list for a test at Sunderland still stands at 4 months and shows no signs of reducing. Waiting lists for an Instructor in South Tyneside stands at 3 months.

Flurries of cancellations by DVSA (with no explanation) are causing more delays. Again, DVSA cannot or will not provide statistics.

The Test Centre at South Shields stands empty and is becoming derelict.

DVSA have only saved £7,000 per annum on closing this facility……..

South Shields is a perfectly viable Driving Test Centre, and we respectfully urge DVSA to reconsider its position, and give serious and fair consideration, for South Shields Driving Test Centre to be reopened.
