The Issue

The Lakewood Park Board of Directors has signed a contract with a cell tower developer to place a tower at Ocala Avenue and Deleon Ave—directly in the middle of our residential community. This decision was made despite serious concerns from homeowners, families, and residents who will be forced to live with the consequences.

This tower threatens the character of our neighborhood, property values, and overall quality of life. Large cell towers placed near homes can create visual blight, constant lighting, equipment noise, and ongoing maintenance traffic. Many families worry about long-term exposure to radiofrequency emissions, especially with children living and playing nearby. Even when regulations are met, residents should have the right to question whether this type of industrial structure belongs in the center of a residential area.

Property owners also face real financial concerns. Homes located near cell towers are often viewed less favorably by buyers, which can reduce demand, slow sales, and negatively affect resale values. For many families, their home is their largest investment, and no board should gamble with that without full community approval.

Residents deserve transparency, proper notice, and a real voice before permanent changes like this are forced on our community. We call on county officials and decision-makers to halt this project immediately, review the approval process, and consider safer, more appropriate locations away from homes

By signing this petition, you are joining us in safeguarding Lakewood Park from the unwarranted intrusion of a cell tower that threatens our homes, community, and quality of life. Let’s come together to ensure our voices are heard, and our neighborhood remains a place where families continue to thrive. Please sign this petition and help us stand against this proposal. Together, we can make a difference.
