This petition is to raise an objection to the proposal by North Lincolnshire Council (the Council) to reroute heavy goods vehicle traffic along East Marsh Road, Ferry Rd, and Thornton Rd. We are requesting that the Council abandon their proposal.

The proposal to reroute heavy traffic along East Marsh Road, Ferry Rd, and Thornton Rd affects the whole village. While the direct impact will be on the residents of East Marsh Road, Ferry Rd, and Thornton Rd there is an indirect impact on everyone in the village:

1. It creates a ring road for HGV movements around the village.
2. Getting into and out of Goxhill will be more difficult with heavy vehicles stacked up Thornton Rd (particularly) and Ferry Rd to get around the cars parked there. This can already be an issue and the additional movements will compound this. 
3. The increase in traffic along that route will impact on the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
4. The pollution in the village will increase from both the number of additional movements of heavy vehicles, the additional distance they have to travel, and the waiting time of heavy vehicles and normal traffic while they try to negotiate their way around the parked cars in the village.
5. The current road infrastructure isn't suitable for the current volume of traffic. Increasing the traffic will only worsen this problem. 

While there is a problem at South End rerouting the traffic only increases the number of people affected. The proposed route was never designed to accommodate this volume of heavy traffic and there are problem points on the proposed route which are unsafe (e.g. the junction of North End and Ferry Rd, the junction of Thornton Rd and Barrow Rd, and the railway bridge). The route is also used by school children walking to school and those waiting for school buses. Far more children live along the proposed route than the existing route.

Over time, desirable, sleepy Goxhill will gain a reputation as somewhere with lots of heavy vehicle traffic. It will become less desirable and this is likely to have a knock on effect on house prices and amenities in the village.
