As Catholics, we believe every person is created in the image and likeness of God and is infinitely loved by Him. This includes those with same-sex attraction or those who identify as "LGBTQ+". We are called to love, respect, and accompany every person with compassion, never with hate or condemnation.
At the same time, love also calls us to truth. As Catholics, we believe that God’s design for human sexuality is revealed in the union of one man and one woman in marriage, open to the gift of life. This teaching isn’t rooted in prejudice or rejection—it’s grounded in a deep reverence for the body, the sacredness of marriage, and the natural law God has written on our hearts.
Pride Month often promotes ideas and behaviors that do not align with this understanding. Many of its messages encourage us to celebrate sexual identities and acts that the Church, guided by Scripture and tradition, cannot affirm. To participate in Pride Month in a celebratory way would mean endorsing what we believe is contrary to God’s plan for love, identity, and human flourishing.
As Catholics, celebrating Pride Month can also be spiritually harmful. It can confuse our conscience and weaken our witness. When we outwardly support something that contradicts our faith—through events, symbols, or affirming slogans—we may unintentionally lead others (or ourselves) to believe that Church teaching has changed or that it can be set aside. This can cause scandal, leading others away from truth, and can gradually erode our own clarity and convictions. Love never compromises truth—it gently speaks it with courage and grace.
Instead of Pride Month, we joyfully invite all to celebrate something far greater: June as the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This devotion is not just a private sentiment—it is a powerful reminder of Christ’s burning love for every soul, His mercy for sinners, and His desire to heal our hearts and restore our true identity as beloved sons and daughters of God. The Sacred Heart teaches us that our worth is not found in our desires, labels, or achievements—but in the fact that Jesus gave His life for us.
Let us use this month to re-center our lives on His heart—to draw near to Him in prayer, Eucharistic adoration, acts of reparation, and loving service to others. When we gaze upon the Sacred Heart, pierced for our sins yet overflowing with mercy, we find both truth and love in perfect unity.
So we choose not to celebrate Pride Month and oppose the Family Pride Mass —not out of hate or fear—but out of love for Christ, love for His teachings, and love for every person. And we choose, instead, to exalt the Heart that loves all people with divine tenderness—the Heart of Jesus.
