Burr Ridge Center developers, the ones who eliminated storefront parking and made a drastic change to BR's downtown traffic pattern only to make way for another plaza, quietly sold out this summer and cleared $40M...leaving the Village of Burr Ridge and its businesses with the after-effects.
The new plaza, while lovely, is empty most of the time. Storefront parking is now scarce, as the developers have forced shoppers & diners to park further away in parking garages. 16 of 17 businesses we surveyed in May, 2025 have lost sales since the BR Center completed its' "update" in July of 2024.
Since then, the Village of Burr Ridge has agreed to pay a restaurant for lost sales and hardship due to the drastic new traffic pattern and the lack of access for diners to park near and access the restaurant. Will there be more businesses asking for help from the Village of Burr Ridge?
Will a similarly drastic traffic pattern change and removal of storefront parking for a plaza help Clarendon Hills? No. BR is a cautionary tale.
We continue to fight to PRESERVE our safe and proven vehicle and pedestrian passages and patterns in and around Clarendon Hill's business district and over our one and only set of BNSF and Metra train tracks that carry 176 train per day through our space-constrained, but mighty, and already uber-walkable Village. We will not accept any such compromised safety and business-draining elements in CH.
2nd Reminder: CH Downtown Workshop is Wednesday, October 22nd at 6:30pm (location likely Prospect School) - please plan to attend!
