Stop the phasing out of AAA @ FIU #AAAisHereToStay

The Issue

The Academy for Advanced Academics (AAA) at FIU is facing a major proposed change that threatens the identity of the school and everything that has made it special to its students, families, alumni, and staff. AAA is not just another school program. It is a small, close-knit dual-enrollment community built specifically for juniors and seniors who are ready for a rigorous academic environment and greater independence. For years, AAA has given students a unique opportunity to grow in a setting defined by trust, freedom, diversity, strong relationships with staff, and a culture that genuinely supports student success. Now, district leadership has announced plans for MAST to take over AAA. Students and families are deeply concerned that this change could completely alter the structure of the school. It may impact the schedule, course opportunities, student activities, staff, campus culture, uniform expectations, and the freedom and flexibility that make AAA what it is today. It is also unclear what will happen to the teachers and staff members who have dedicated years to building this community. This is not simply a name change. For many of us, this feels like the loss of a school community that has shaped our lives. AAA has never been defined only by academics. It is the environment, the people, the support, and the sense of belonging that make it extraordinary. Students come here because AAA offers something different, and something that works. We are not asking for our voices to be ignored while decisions about our future are made without meaningful input from the people most affected. Students, parents, alumni, and supporters deserve to be heard before a school with such a strong identity is fundamentally changed. We are calling on Miami-Dade County Public Schools and all relevant decision-makers to reconsider this plan and preserve AAA as it is. Protect the community, culture, opportunities, and academic model that have already proven successful for so many students. Please sign this petition to stand with AAA and help protect the school, the community, and the future that generations of students deserve. #AAAisHereToStay
