Protect Pacific Harbour's Community Assets, Infrastructure, and Right to Be Heard

Pacific Harbour residents are calling for an independent review of the rezoning and subdivision approval that would allow part of the Pacific Harbour Golf Course to be converted into a 61-lot gated residential development.

This petition is not opposed to responsible development. Pacific Harbour has benefited from investment and growth for decades. However, development must be transparent, properly assessed, and undertaken with meaningful community involvement.

For almost 50 years, the golf course and surrounding open spaces have been a defining feature of Pacific Harbour. They contribute to the area's identity, lifestyle, tourism appeal, environmental character, and property values. The proposed development would permanently alter a significant portion of this long-established community asset.

Many residents only became aware of the proposal after consultants commenced social and environmental survey work. By that stage, critical planning decisions, including rezoning approval, had already been granted. This has raised serious concerns about whether residents were given a genuine opportunity to understand, comment on, or challenge a proposal that will significantly affect their community.

Residents are also concerned about the capacity of Pacific Harbour's existing infrastructure. For years, the community has experienced ongoing issues relating to water supply, sewerage systems, and other essential services. Before any additional residential density is approved, residents deserve assurance that these systems can safely and sustainably support further development.

Questions have also been raised about whether environmental assessment, public consultation, and evaluation of potential impacts were undertaken at the appropriate stages of the planning process. Community confidence depends on planning decisions being transparent, evidence-based, and compliant with all statutory requirements.

Once this development proceeds, the loss of open space and the change to the character of Pacific Harbour cannot be reversed.

We Call On the Relevant Authorities to:

• Conduct an independent review of the rezoning and subdivision approval process.
• Determine whether all legal consultation, planning, and environmental assessment requirements were fully satisfied before approvals were granted.
• Review the adequacy of infrastructure, including water, sewerage, and other essential services, to support the proposed development.
• Assess the cumulative environmental and community impacts of the project.
• Suspend any further implementation of the development until the review is completed.
• Facilitate a transparent and meaningful community consultation process.
