The Issue

As proud independent Driffield Business Owners, we have dedicated ourselves to serving our community through the Post Office for many years. We have invested time, effort, and resources to ensure the Driffield Post Office is a reliable and essential service for all residents. However, there is now a plan to open another branch in our town, within a national chain, which threatens the sustainability of our existing independent facility.

Driffield is a town with a rich sense of community, where businesses and residents work together to maintain a thriving local economy. The introduction of a new Post Office branch could undermine this balance. Our existing branch not only provides vital Post Office Services but also creates jobs and supports local business owners. The opening of another branch could impact our sustainability as we only get paid for each transaction. We do not receive a wage for simply opening.  If transactions decrease, as does our ability to make the business viable, potentially leading to the closure of our branch, which would be detrimental to the community, and our employees.

The decision to add another Post Office has not been communicated effectively to the community, and many are unaware of the potential impact on us as an independent franchise.

We call on Post Office Ltd to reconsider this proposal. Let’s foster a united Driffield where local businesses like ours can continue to flourish and provide for the community.

We urge you to sign this petition and support us in keeping Driffield’s Post Office as a single, thriving, and invaluable community resource. Together, we can make a difference and preserve the identity and economy of our beloved town.
