Petition to the Town of Davie regarding the proposed Nova Southeastern University Dorm Development (ZB25-247 / DG25-248)

What’s Happening
A proposal has been submitted to rezone a 5-acre community field (Bill Gessner Sports Complex) at SW 30th Street & SW 72nd Avenue to allow construction of a 7-story dormitory housing 600 students with 561 parking spaces.

This land is currently used as active athletic fields for children, teens, and students.

Why This Matters
This is not just a development—this is a permanent change to our neighborhood, our safety, and our quality of life.

The Real Impact on Our Community

🚗 Massive Traffic Increase & Safety Risks
600 residents + 561 parking spaces = significant congestion
Increased danger for children, pedestrians, and cyclists
Overburdened local roads not designed for this density

Student housing brings late-night activity, gatherings, and constant noise

⚠️ There Are Better Alternatives
Nova Southeastern University owns other land better suited for student housing that would not:

Disrupt residential neighborhoods
Remove community recreation space
Create unsafe traffic conditions
We urge the Town to require the developer to consider more appropriate locations
