We are families and neighbors in Doral, Medley, and nearby Miami-Dade communities. We are asking our city, county, state, and federal leaders to do everything they can to stop Waste Management from building a new landfill next to our homes.

Waste Management bought 146 acres near NW 106th Street and NW 95th Avenue in Medley. This land is next to the current Medley Landfill. The company wants to use this land for a new Class I landfill for household, business, industrial, and farm waste.

This matters because we live here. Our children live, play, and go to school here. Our families have already dealt with bad smells, more trucks, and worries about our air and water from the current landfill.

A new landfill in the same area would mean more truck traffic, more odors, and more risk for the same neighborhoods. It would put an even bigger burden on Doral, Medley, and nearby families.

Miami-Dade County does have a real waste problem, especially after the 2023 fire that closed the Doral waste-to-energy plant. But the answer should not be another landfill next to homes.

There are better choices. Our leaders can support more recycling, composting, food recovery, repair programs, and other Zero Waste plans. They can also require a full, independent review of health and environmental impacts before any permit is approved.

This is not far away. This is happening to us now.

We are asking for:

1. The City of Doral to pass a strong resolution against the new landfill and speak out at the county and state level.
2.  Miami-Dade County to refuse any contracts for new landfill space in Medley and choose better, safer waste solutions.
3. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection to review this project very carefully, study the full impact on our community, and deny permits if the harms cannot be fully fixed.
4. Our federal leaders to support a full environmental review and protect our health, our air, our water, and our neighborhoods.
5. Full public information about all permit applications, traffic studies, odor studies, leachate plans, and any agreements with the community.
