Last week’s Budget was a missed opportunity to show true compassion in action.
While we welcome the Chancellor’s announcement of the end of the two-child benefit cap (a change we have been campaigning for) it should not have taken this long to act. Compassion is not something that requires years of careful calculation; it demands doing the right thing as soon as people’s lives are at stake.
The two-child cap has affected 1.5 million children, and even the most conservative estimates suggest removing it could have freed 300,000 from poverty and given 700,000 more a real chance at a brighter future.
For millions of families struggling with the rising cost of living, a decisive, compassionate approach could have made a real difference immediately. Instead, we see small, cautious changes that stop short of addressing the root causes of poverty, inequality, and hardship.
We want to hear from you:
Do you think this Budget will make life better for struggling families?
At Compassion in Politics, we believe that acting with care and foresight should be the first instinct of any government. Policies that protect children, support families, and ensure fairness in society are not radical; they are the minimum standards of a society that values its people.
Thank you for standing with us. Your voice matters, and your support makes it possible for us to hold politicians accountable and champion policies rooted in humanity and fairness.
With hope and determination,
