Stop the Narrowing of the Footpath in Rose Bay: Unnecessary Expansion of Bus Stop

The issue

I am a proud member of the vibrant Rose Bay community, where young families with strollers, dog owners, and older people share our village and footpaths. Our community is also home to dedicated store owners who serve us every day.

Woollahra Council plans to build replacement bigger bus stops along New South Head Rd in Rose Bay Village that will further narrow an already narrow footpath in most areas of the Village. This move threatens not only the comfort but also the safety of all who use it.

The existing bus stops are perfectly functional: covered and most complete with a bench. The proposed new structure will not only make the footpath narrower but may also discourage people from visiting local businesses due to discomfort or potential danger. These businesses have already endured challenging years; they do not need further obstacles blocking their visibility or discouraging customers, existing and new.

As you know, parking is already an issue in our area; we don't need another reason for residents to avoid visiting local shops and services.

It's disheartening that these changes are being made without adequate notice or consultation from Woollahra Council to those who will be most affected - us, the community members and hard working local business owners.

Posting a sign on the existing bus stop pole advising the new structure with a week's notice is not reasonable or respectful.

We urge the Council to reconsider this decision and prioritize safety and accessibility over unnecessary infrastructure additions that could harm our beloved community's vibrancy and economic health.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving Rose Bay's charm while ensuring its walkways remain safe for everyone!
