Stop the Merger of Southeast Academy with John Glenn high school

The Issue

PETITION TO HALT THE MERGER OF SOUTHEAST ACADEMY AND JOHN GLENN HIGH SCHOOL
Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District

We, the undersigned parents, students, alumni, and residents of Norwalk and surrounding communities, strongly oppose the decision to merge Southeast Academy with John Glenn High School.

We believe this decision was made without adequate transparency, community input, or adherence to legal procedures as required under the Ralph M. Brown Act and other public governance laws.

We are calling for the following actions:
 1. Immediate suspension of the school merger plans.
 2. A formal investigation and audit regarding the recent school board vote, including:
 • A thorough review of the voting procedures used during the meeting and times.
 • An audit of the vote on the inclusion of an agenda item that was not properly listed or disclosed prior to the meeting.
 • Verification that all procedures mandated by law were followed.
 3. Public hearings and community forums where students, families, and educators can voice their concerns and provide meaningful input before any major restructuring decisions are made.
 4. Full disclosure of the rationale, data, and financial motivations behind the proposed merger, including how the decision was reached and its expected impact on our students’ educational opportunities and community identity.

Southeast Academy offers a unique educational model that serves a specific student population with distinct academic, behavioral, and leadership goals. Merging it without proper planning, transparency, and public support would cause unnecessary disruption and undermine student progress.

We believe our children deserve better—and that our voices deserve to be heard.

Stop the merger. Demand transparency. Hold decision-makers accountable.
