STOP THE KIRKLEES PERMIT HIKE

The Issue

Petition to Kirklees Council: Freeze the Unjustified Increase in Parking Permit Fees Until a Proper Consultation Takes place

We, the undersigned residents of Kirklees, strongly oppose the recent increases in residential and visitor parking permit fees, which have risen significantly without adequate consultation with the public. The changes unfairly burden households and could disproportionately impact lower-income families.

Our Demands:

1. Hold a Full Council Debate – We call for an open and transparent discussion within Kirklees Council, allowing residents to voice their concerns before any changes are enforced.

2. Stop the Increase Immediately – The sharp rise in permit costs should be frozen until a full consultation process is completed, ensuring that residents’ views are considered.

3. Transparency on Fund Allocation – The council must disclose how revenue from parking fines and increased permit fees is being used. This will provide clarity on whether these funds directly benefit local infrastructure, transport, and public services.

The decision to increase permit fees should not be made without thorough public engagement. The residents of Kirklees deserve fairness, transparency, and accountability in council policies. We urge the council to listen to the community and take immediate action to address these concerns.
