Urgent government intervention is required to prevent the proposed job cuts at the University of Northampton (UON).

Cuts to the UON workforce, along with the subsequent closure or merger of some programmes, will not only affect the livelihoods of hundreds of employees and damage the regional economy, but will also significantly reduce equality of opportunity for disadvantaged groups wishing to access Higher Education, as well as the academic progression of students.

We implore Northamptonshire MPs and government to take all necessary measures to prevent job cuts, such as supporting the renegotiation of the terms of a bond agreed by previous UON management with HM Treasury, and the easing of current visa measures which are damaging the UK's reputation as a leading destination for overseas students and is causing lower student recruitment.
