Motorists are facing potential charges over £190 under a proposed pay-per-mile car tax scheme, which the new Labour leadership is considering. Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to reveal this radical proposal in October’s Autumn Statement.
According to Birmingham Live, AA Chairman Edmund King has stated, "The time is right [for road pricing] because people are out there and they themselves see the benefits of walking and cycling and running." This stance seems at odds with the AA’s traditional role of supporting drivers and advocating for fair treatment. The AA’s support for this scheme could alienate its 14 million members, who might see this as a departure from the organization’s core values and choose to distance themselves from it.
Now more than ever, it's crucial for us to unite and make our voices heard.
Please share this petition far and wide to ensure our message resonates through the corridors of power: We reject the Labour government's pay-per-mile tax proposal if in the October budget!
If this goes through, it will impact our daily lives and our votes in future elections. Stand with us—let's make it clear that we won't accept these plans and will hold our leaders accountable.
