The Issue

Pennsylvania is a beautiful state, full of lush forests, sprawling fields and meadows, and diverse wildlife. But now, this natural beauty and biodiversity are under a serious threat from the planned installation of over 184 data centers across our state. We must put a stop to this before it's too late!!

Data centers emit a significant amount of heat and require immense water resources for cooling (millions of gallons of water DAILY), which drains our local water supplies and negatively affects the surrounding environment. The increased water consumption will lead to rivers and lakes drying up, impacting people and local flora/fauna that depend on these water bodies for survival. Moreover, the deforestation needed to build these centers means further loss of habitat for Pennsylvania’s wildlife and contributes to air and soil degradation.

Facts and studies show that data centers contribute extensively to CO2 emissions due to their high energy consumption. The addition of over 180 planned data centers represents an 188% increase from the current 98 operational data centers in the state! Do you know much land, water, and energy is required for this?? An impossible amount! In addition, Executive Order 14141, titled “Advancing United States Leadership in Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure”, implicitly acknowledges that data centers are harmful to health! The pollutants they emit are extremely dangerous to our respiratory systems, and can lead to a variety of health issues (such as cancer, tumors, miscarriages, infertility, and more).

Pennsylvania does not want or need more data centers!! The people will not have their hard-working tax dollars go toward projects that will harm them and the environment they live in! Companies should be mandated to complete thorough environmental impact assessments and obtain community CONSENT before proceeding with installations!

It is crucial that we act now to ensure that our state does not become an ecological sacrifice zone at the altar of technological advancement! The people of Pennsylvania are deeply concerned and angered by the carelessness of our state officials, legislators, and government, which seem to care more about filling their own pockets than the well-being of the people. The people of Pennsylvania do not want our energy and water bills increasing, and we certainly DO NOT WANT water shortages to occur throughout our state. We have been living without data centers and AI for decades…and trust me, in the long run, this does not benefit anyone! Everyone will suffer as a result of these actions! The people DO NOT WANT THIS!

Please, I urge you, as a fellow Pennsylvanian, I am begging you to join us in urging state legislators, officials, and environmental/school boards to halt the installation of these data centers and seek more sustainable options.
Sign the petition to preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of Pennsylvania before it’s too late. Let’s come together to protect our environment, our wildlife, and our quality of life!
