The Issue

Petition Summary:
We, the undersigned, strongly oppose planning application BH2025/01132 for the installation of a 60 ft tall telecoms mast and associated equipment at the pavement north of Dyke Road and The Upper Drive junction in Brighton (BN3 6NT).

Why This Matters:
The proposed installation would have a deeply negative impact on our community for the following reasons:

Visual Harm: The mast would introduce an intrusive industrial structure in a primarily residential area known for its unspoilt views across Brighton, Hove, and the sea. It is also just under 100 metres from a designated heritage asset (LLHA0054).

Pedestrian Obstruction: The mast and cabinets would significantly reduce pavement width, disrupting pedestrian flow on a well-used route, especially for children, parents with prams, and individuals with visual impairments.

Proximity to Schools: The location is near several primary and secondary schools, raising safety and planning concerns.

Inadequate Consultation: Only a small handful of residents were formally notified, leaving many in the immediate area unaware of the proposal. This lack of engagement undermines the principles of fair and transparent planning.

Precedent of Rejection: Similar proposals nearby have been rejected by the Council due to their impact on the area’s character and aesthetics. This mast would set a worrying precedent.

Existing Infrastructure: There are already other telecoms structures and cabinets in the vicinity. Adding more risks turning the area into a cluttered and unsightly hotspot that also attracts vandalism and graffiti.

What We Are Asking:
We urge Brighton & Hove City Council to reject application BH2025/01132 and protect our community from this inappropriate and harmful development.
