Stop the Inhumane Conversion of North Campus Single Rooms to Double Occupancy
Stop the Inhumane Conversion of North Campus Single Rooms to Double Occupancy
The Issue
To: The Dean of Student Affairs (DoSA) and the Hostel Administration
The 2025 B.Tech Boys batch is formally launching this petition to protest the proposed relocation from South Campus (Hostel E and Bhairav) to North Campus. The current plan forces students into makeshift double-sharing rooms—units specifically designed and built for single occupancy.
Why this matters:
Physical Impossibility & Safety: These rooms cannot functionally fit two cots and two almirahs. The result is a cramped, hazardous living space with zero floor movement, making it impossible to maintain a healthy academic environment.
Infrastructure Collapse: Doubling the population of these blocks will overwhelm existing washrooms, WiFi bandwidth, and common utilities. This will inevitably lead to hygiene crises and utility failures.
Lack of Transparency: This decision was made without a formal circular or prior consultation. Students were forced to seek out this information themselves rather than being treated as stakeholders in their own welfare.
Unfair Burden: While we acknowledge the Academic Committee's decision to increase seat intake, the burden of institutional expansion should not be placed on the shoulders of current students by degrading their fundamental living conditions.
Our Demands:
Halt the Relocation: Allow the 2025 batch to remain in their current South Campus accommodations.
Respect Design Capacity: If a move to North Campus is mandatory, the administration must honor the architectural intent of the building and provide standard single-occupancy rooms.
Immediate Dialogue: We demand an Open House with the DoSA and the Hostel Committee on May 12th or 13th (immediately following our exams) to address these grievances face-to-face.
Standard living conditions are not a luxury—they are a right. Sign this petition to demand transparency, safety, and respect for the student body.
