Stop the industrialisation of our sacred Loch Ness

Stop the industrialisation of our sacred Loch Ness
The Issue
Many of us are blessed to be surrounded by the sweeping beauty and timeless mystery of Loch Ness created long, long ago by 'The Cailleach' - Scotland's Winter Goddess.
It has always been more than a mere body of water. Loch Ness is a cherished symbol of our indigenous cultural heritage, a sacred land that holds the whispers of our ancestors and the stories of the generations who came before us. Disturbingly, the integrity and sanctity of this beloved area are now under threat from aggressive industrialisation.
Loch Ness attracts not just those interested in it's legendary creature and associated mythology but those who wish to immerse themselves in its breathtaking natural landscape. It's a place where you can feel the spirit of the Scottish Highlands and connect with the magic of nature in its rawest form - an experience that risks being altered beyond recognition if this industrial push is allowed to proceed unchecked.
As the plans for industrial development loom, we face the devastating prospect of transforming this rural haven into something entirely foreign to those who love and depend upon it.
Plans include the construction of:
- Three new huge Pump Storage Hydro (PSH) facilities.
- Wind Farms on surrounding moorland from which pure water sources feed into Loch Ness.
- Associated infrastructure such as weir upgrades, pylons, roads, workers camps, heavy goods traffic and telecoms towers.
- Abstraction of water for ‘Green’ Hydrogen production.
All this will inevitably lead to irreversible environmental degradation, habitat destruction, and the loss of an irreplaceable part of our cultural heritage, deeply loved globally.
We must act now to preserve this land not just for ourselves, but for the future generations who should have the same opportunity to experience its magic and tranquility. The highland communities that thrive around Loch Ness rely on tourism, small scale farming in natural surroundings and many have an ancient connection to the land. Industrialisation would not only jeopardize the environment but also risk the way of life of these communities.
This is a call to action for decision makers, legislators, environmental organisations, and concerned citizens around the world to come together to protect Loch Ness and our Highlands extending across our wider Celtic lands. We need legal protections and local sustainable economic strategies that honour both nature and heritage rather than erode them.
Please sign this petition to show your commitment to preserving Loch Ness as a sacred and natural sanctuary for all. Together, we can ensure this iconic landscape retains its beauty and mystery and is cherished for generations to come.
Sign now and be a part of this critical cause to stop the industrialisation of sacred Loch Ness.
