What do you do when straight out of the blue someone offers to help our campaign and write a beautiful book?
The answer is obvious, and you're right we said a big "Yes Please!"
Step forward Sandy Brown who on her debut as an author, has written this beautifully illustrated book which tells a heart-warming story of friendship while highlighting an important environmental message: flying ring-style toys can be incredibly dangerous for seals and other marine life.
Written for children ages 4–8, the story follows Sammy the seal and his best friend Sully as they play by the sea. Their fun takes a worrying turn when a lost flying ring becomes stuck around Sammy’s neck. With Sully’s help, Sammy is saved — but the story shines a light on the very real dangers of discarded toys in our seas and waterways.
Illustrated by Emma J Henderson, (Sandy’s youngest daughter) this charming tale makes a complex conservation issue simple and relatable for children. It’s the perfect book for schools, parents, and community groups who want to teach children how small choices — like swapping to a solid flying disc — can help protect our seas and the wildlife that call them home.
When we received the first book, we were amazed how creative, kind and supportive people really are.
Perfectly timed with, dare I say it, Christmas looming up on us, it is a perfect Christmas present for children aged 4 to 8 years of age.
The book is available via the Seal Research Trust Shop and proceeds from the sale will help our continuing campaign to protect these wonderful animals.
Thank you Sandy and Emma for your support and creating such a wonderful book.
On another note, we have now exceeded 45,000 signatures and are on our way towards that magical number of 50,000!!
Why 50,000?
Because it's a milestone in our campaign and sounds much better than 40,000!!
In all seriousness, we need 50,000 as it turns a lot more heads at the various seats of power such as Local Authorities, Members of Parliament, UK Government and all the devolved Governments within Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
We still need YOU to help promote and gain as many signatures on our petition.
Please make a BIG push to reach that 50,000.
Also, please consider supporting the campaign by buying the wonderful Sammy and the Flying Ring book for a special person in your life or go one step further and just treat yourself....we are all children at heart!
Thank you everyone.
