This petition is to demand immediate executive intervention to stop the planned slaughter of approximately 60-80 Eastern  Grey Kangaroos that have become landlocked on Stockland’s Mount Atkinson Reserve in Truganina, Victoria.

Representatives from Stockland, including their Consultant for Environmental Management Plans and Open Space Planning, have officially informed us that in the coming few weeks a corporate decision has been made to cull the mobs of kangaroos currently trapped on their developmental site.

This decision is an absolute failure of both environmental planning and cultural respect, the kangaroos are currently trapped by surrounding fencing & development where the culling could have been avoided if they were not landlocked by Stockland in the first place.

The current “green corridors” designed for this development are completely inadequate and not strong enough to safely sustain, protect or move these animals.
Instead of creating a functional safe path to surrounding habitats and waterways these weak corridors have left the mobs isolated, panicked and boxed into a construction zone.

Instead of fixing their planning failure, Stockland have stated there are intentions to use lethal shortcuts to clear the land. As a Bunurong Gunditjmara Trawlwoolway woman, seeing our native wildlife treated as disposable construction waste on Country is deeply offensive and unacceptable.

Lethal culling is entirely unnecessary where there are professional and specialised organisations who possess the state approved permits, volunteer veterinary darters and resources required to safely sedate and relocate these trapped mobs to secure reserves.

Stockland must be forced to use these compassionate non-lethal alternatives.

We demand Ministers Jaclyn Symes & Luba Grigorovitch intervene to take immediate action to:

-Immediately freeze or cancel any active or pending “Authority to Control Wildlife” (ATCW) culling permits issued for Stockland’s Mount Atkinson Reserve.
-Order a halt to all development works that threaten these mobs until an ecological review proves Stockland’s green corridors are completely failing.
-Mandate non-lethal relocation, forcing Stockland to fully fund and cooperate with specialized wildlife organizations to safely transport these trapped kangaroos off the site.

The wider Community are watching this situation closely and we will not accept a multi-billion-dollar developer shooting native animals because they failed to enforce, adhere to and implement an adequate and humane;

-Environmental Management Plan (EMP)

-Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMPs)

-Kangaroo Management Plan (KMP)

Furthermore, we will not accept that Stockland are shooting native animals because they failed to build proper infrastructure.
