The Issue

The House just voted, by a narrow and deeply partisan margin, to pass a bill that would permanently rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” This absurd legislation is not only a slap in the face to history and geography, but a blatant attempt to pander to political ego at the expense of serious governance.

We must act now to stop this bill from becoming law.

This bill, pushed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and backed by a Republican majority, aims to codify one of President Trump’s most ridiculous executive orders. It’s a performative stunt, not serious legislation, and yet the House made time for it while neglecting urgent issues like healthcare, housing, and medical debt. Changing the name of an entire body of water doesn’t solve a single real problem Americans are facing.

The Senate must not waste a second more on this. We urge Senate leaders to reject this bill outright and send a message that our nation’s time, energy, and resources should be focused on helping people—not inflating a president’s personal brand or rewriting maps to suit his vanity.

This is not patriotic. This is not productive. This is not what we elected Congress to do.

Tell the Senate to vote NO on this meaningless bill. Let the Gulf of Mexico remain just that, and let common sense prevail.
