There is a proposal to relocate the Ontario Science Centre to Ontario Place, which would pave the way for new housing developments in its current location. Even the Premier, Doug Ford, has expressed support for this idea. However, the Ontario Science Centre is an important resource for the communities of Thorncliffe and Flemington Park. Local schools frequently organize field trips to the centre, and families often bring their children to visit. Furthermore, a new LRT/Subway station is being built nearby, and it is unclear what would happen to it if the Science Centre were to move. Additionally, the housing that would replace the centre may not be affordable for local residents. It is crucial that we convince Doug Ford and the government to maintain the Science Centre in its current location, as moving it to Ontario Place would be a poor decision and a waste of funds. Thorncliffe Park needs the business the Science Centre brings to the area. There is far less traffic and parking congestion where the science center currently is than at Ontario Place. The iconic, historical architecture of the current location of the Science Centre is beautiful, culturally relavent and should be preserved.
