🚨 Victory for Ashford – But the Fight Isn’t Over 🚨

An application for an Adult Gaming Centre (AGC) at 39 Church Road (the old Barclays Bank) has been REFUSED by Spelthorne Borough Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee on 8 October 2025.

This decision came after 133 valid objections and more than 2,300 petition signatures from local people like you. The Sub-Committee recognised that:

  • Ashford High Street already struggles with antisocial behaviour and crime.
  • The site is surrounded by schools, care homes, bus stops, a library, and youth services.
  • The risks to children and vulnerable people could not be properly managed, even with conditions.

This is a huge win for Ashford. Without your signatures, objections, and community action, this licence would almost certainly have been granted.

⚖️ What happens next

The developer has invested heavily and may choose to appeal the refusal to the Magistrates’ Court. If that happens, the fight will continue  and your support will still be crucial in showing the strength of community opposition.

✊ Why keep signing?

The petition shows ongoing, widespread opposition to this proposal.
Every additional signature helps demonstrate that Ashford residents and people who use the High Street, do not want a 24-hour gambling centre here.

This isn’t just about one building: it’s about protecting the future of our town centre.

Thank you for standing with us and for helping achieve this important first victory. Together, we’ve shown what Ashford can do when it speaks with one voice.

Let’s keep Ashford a place for community.

With thanks,

Nik Urquhart
