Stop the felling of three healthy lime trees on Trelawney Road in Falmouth.
The Issue
Dear All,
Cornwall Council has renewed its intention to fell three healthy street trees on Trelawney Road, Falmouth in mid to late November.
These trees are in the conservation area and should be protected. They are mature and well loved giving beneficial amenity to the environment by providing visual appeal, shade and wildlife habitat.
Cornwall Council has tried to fell the trees on three previous occasions since 2024 and all have been stopped by public protest.
Despite repeated requests, the Council has failed to supply verifiable evidence to justify felling. Instead it has put out misleading statements and said that details cannot be given, due to reasons of confidentiality.
It is understood that the Council has agreed an out of court settlement with a third party that includes the felling of the three trees, a six figure payment and a confidentiality clause that prevents public scrutiny. Cornwall Council has not refuted this.
Stop the Chop!, a campaign group formed to press the Council to justify its reasons for felling, is instructing Paul Powlesland, the environmental barrister, to investigate this case. Paul attended the last protest and said that the Council’s failure to share information is, “unhelpful and actually really quite outrageous”.
Please support the Trelawney Trees by signing this petition and sharing with others.
If you are able to make a donation to help with legal costs via the Gofundme link below, it would be very much appreciated and please share the link;
Help us to hold Cornwall Council to account.
With very many thanks!
