The FAA is in the process of re-designing the entire national airspace, and their NextGen plans have been met with staunched opposition from communities nationwide, including Phoenix, Santa Cruz, Palo Alto, San Diego, Seattle, Redmond (Washington), Chicago, Minnesota, Boston, and New York, which has garnered both local and national media attention as well as congressional actions in Washington. The FAA Environmental Assessment and final determination regarding the proposed NextGen overflights over Culver City will be released soon. Once the FAA Environmental Assessment is released, the City of Culver City will have within 60 days to file a lawsuit to challenge the Environmental Assessment and stop the controversial NextGen overflights over our community. Thousands of Culver City residents have voiced their concerns and opposition to the increased jet noise and pollution they are currently experiencing due to noticeable, undisclosed, and unexplained changes to the airspace over Culver City. Please urge our current City Council members AND City Council candidates to protect and defend our community from the harmful increased jet noise and pollution, and exercise ALL THE POWER of the City Council to SUE and legally challenge the FAA Environmental Assessment WITHIN the 60-day deadline of its release. Their actions and leadership on this ONE issue will not only contribute to this ongoing, increasingly publicized discourse of this injustice on the NATIONAL STAGE, but also shape the destiny and characteristics of our city (as well as countless communities across the United States) for years and decades to come.
