The Issue

Sivarasa Anojan is a young man whose life hangs in the balance after being handed the death penalty in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). His story is a deeply personal one for many who value the sanctity of human life and the importance of freedom of expression. Anojan had engaged in an online discussion regarding a facet of the Muslim faith and the interpretation of Allah's teachings, not realizing that his comments could be perceived as blasphemous. Once he understood the potential consequences of his words, he expressed remorse and sought forgiveness.

Despite this, Anojan was arrested and has been detained ever since. He lost his job and source of income due to the incarceration and has faced significant financial burdens as a result. The situation escalated when the high court made a shocking decision to uphold the death penalty, with a final decision set for 18/09/26.

It is imperative to recognize that discussions about religion should not result in the loss of life. There is a pressing need to respect human rights universally, which includes the freedom to engage in discourse about religious beliefs. Anojan's case highlights the broader implications of this issue. People worldwide should be afforded the right to freedom of expression without living in fear of severe, punitive repercussions.

We urge the Saudi Arabian authorities to reconsider Anojan's sentence and commute his death penalty to a more humane punishment. We appeal to international human rights organizations to intervene and advocate on Anojan's behalf, emphasizing reconciliation and a fair judicial process that takes into account his early contrition and understanding.

Every voice counts, and with your signature, we can send a powerful message to the Saudi Parliament and the global community that every human life is valuable and deserves a second chance. Please sign this petition to help save a life and encourage a more compassionate approach to justice in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Together, we can make a difference.
