Stop the Execution of Nimisha Priya – Urge the Indian Government to Act Now!
The Issue
We, the concerned citizens of India and the global community, urgently appeal to the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the President of India to intervene diplomatically and legally to stall the execution of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse currently on death row in Yemen.
Who is Nimisha Priya?
Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse from Kerala, moved to Yemen in 2008 to work and support her family back home. She was reportedly subjected to abuse and exploitation by her Yemeni employer. In a desperate attempt to escape her situation and return to India with her daughter, she became involved in a tragic incident that led to her conviction for murder. She has now been sentenced to death.
Why This Petition Matters:
Imminent Execution: Nimisha Priya is at risk of being executed at any moment unless urgent steps are taken to stop it.
Humanitarian Grounds: She has already suffered years in prison and deserves a fair chance at rehabilitation.
Legal Remedy Exists: Yemeni law allows for pardon by the victim’s family upon the payment of “blood money” (diya). Many individuals and groups have come forward willing to raise this amount – but we need government support and coordination.
India must protect its citizens abroad. As per international treaties, India has a responsibility to ensure fair treatment and due process for Indians facing criminal charges overseas.
Our Demands:
- Immediate diplomatic intervention by the Ministry of External Affairs to stall Nimisha Priya’s execution.
- A coordinated effort to negotiate pardon with the victim’s family under Yemeni law.
- Government facilitation in raising or transferring the blood money (if required) through proper legal channels.
- A public commitment by Indian authorities to protect vulnerable migrant workers, especially women.
Let’s Stand Together
Nimisha Priya is a mother, a daughter, a healthcare worker — and above all, a human being. Her life must not be ended when peaceful, legal alternatives exist. Let's show the strength of people power and demand justice with compassion.
