Thank you everyone who has taken the time to sign this petition as we are quickly approaching 270 signatures.

We have caught the attention of a nationally backed group called Strong Towns ABQ.  They are now courting and going to local neighborhood associations and community groups to sell you on Upzoning.

They call this “YIMBY” or Yes In My Back Yard and push this agenda under the guise of affordable and sustainable housing.  

As an FYI, the 2024 YIMBY conference held in Austin was sponsored by the likes of the Koch-backed Mercatus Center and industry titans like Airbnb.  Just like how Strong Towns is a nationally backed organization whose founder said Cities should be run like Buccees.

They are coming into our communities and trying to push their corporate ubanization agenda while using progressive talking points and language to try and justify their goals.

Upzoning, quite simply, is the removal of planning and community voices to benefit corporate real estate investment urbanizing our city.

Many Cities who’ve implemented Upzoning have had increases in the cost of living and studies are finding it to gentrify while pricing out locals and minorities.  Additionally it has been found to create little new housing inventory.

With all the monied interests involved working a charm campaign, we as citizens need to ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear.
