Ms. Gloria, our vibrant 78-years-young beloved community member and many passionate volunteers have dedicated countless hours over the past 3 years to create the sacred garden space known and loved as Ms. Glo's Garden. This thriving community garden adjacent to the Artspace Apartments, where Ms. Gloria has been a tenant for several years, has been a place of joy, play, connection, education and growth for tenants, neighbors and community members of all ages.
Unfortunately on January 5th 2026 Ms. Cynthia Mackie, the property manager for the Artspace Bell School under HRI Properties, put a 30 day notice to vacate on Ms. Gloria's garden gate despite Ms. Gloria's multiple requests to discuss the garden's lease and its conditions prior to the sudden eviction notice.
We, the undersigned community, are upset and deeply disheartened that Ms. Mackie and HRI Properties do not see the value of such a beautiful and joyous space and are so willing to erase years of love and labor instead of working out a solution that honors the importance of the garden to our community and allows Ms. Gloria to continue to steward the space.
We urge Ms. Mackie and the HRI Communities property management company to reconsider this imminent eviction. We seek a compromise that ensures not only the continuation of the garden but also continued safe and stable housing for our dear elder Ms. Gloria.
Please sign your name and if you feel called to, please share an experience or a story from your times in the garden and how meaningful and important the space is to you, personally. Your signature and/ or story can help demonstrate that this garden is indispensable and should not be forcibly moved.
If you feel so inclined, you can also email HRI Properties your thoughts directly at contact@hricommunities.com
