The Issue

Four children are facing homelessness.

A a former Mayor of Ripon, Freeman of the City and someone who has spent a lifetime serving this community, few situations have troubled me as much as this one.

On 21 April 2026, the Council's Private Housing Standards Team carried out a hazard inspection of the family's home after concerns were raised about conditions at the property.

Just eight days later, on 29 April 2026, the family were served with a Section 21 "no fault" eviction notice requiring them to leave.

Less than 48 hours later, no-fault evictions were abolished by new legislation.

Many people will read that timeline and ask how this can be fair.

Over the previous four years, the family had experienced prolonged disrepair, delays in repairs and maintenance, and ongoing concerns affecting their home.

The Property Ombudsman identified service failures, delays in repairs and maintenance and awarded compensation against the managing agents, Linley & Simpson.

The family were also supported by the police, Victim Support and medical professionals.

Among them are an autistic child and an autistic father. The prospect of losing the stability and security of their home is therefore particularly distressing.

Despite everything, they have continued to care for their home, pay their rent, and provide a loving home for their children.

I believe there remains an opportunity for compassion, dialogue and common sense.

I respectfully ask Holy Trinity Properties Trust to reconsider this decision, revoke the Section 21 notice, and allow this family to remain in the home they love.

If, like me, you believe this family deserves the opportunity to remain in their home, I urge you to sign and share this petition.
