Stop the Erasure of Military Historical Records

The Issue

As someone built with the strength of veterans, I am the daughter of a combat Vietnam Veteran, a US Navy Veteran, as well as the proud mother of an active duty Marine. I also continue my service to the community as the CEO of Grace After Fire.

Today, I bring to your attention a deeply troubling situation that threatens to erase our shared legacy and the countless stories the military embodies.

An order has been issued to remove military documents, photos, and historical records. This is not just an attempt to erase important historical artifacts, but it is also a betrayal to every individual who has served, sacrificed, and contributed to our freedom. Removing such records means attempting to make invisible the 18.2 million veterans (source: Census Bureau) who have contributed to our nation's history and freedom.

Such an order strikes a blow to the military community, which includes 1.3 million active-duty service members (according to the Defense Manpower Data Center). Erasing these records is akin to erasing the valiant efforts of these brave individuals and the countless others before them.

Given the gravity of this situation, it is critical for us to take action. We bear the responsibility of preserving these records, these stories too precious to erase and too vital to forget. Honor our heros by protecting their legacy. We cannot allow the erasure of military documents, photos and historical records. It's not just about the past; it's also about the future of millions who will serve our country.
