Stop The Elstree Hill Water Leak Before Lives Are Lost!

The Issue

To: Hertfordshire County Council

We write as Elstree and Borehamwood residents, users of Elstree Hill South and Elstree Village neighbours to demand that urgent action is taken to fix the water leak that has iced over and now presents a real and present danger to human life.

The leak has seen water gushing down the road since early December and several of us have written to you already warning what would happen if swift action wasn’t taken before a cold snap set in.

These warnings have seemingly been left unheeded.

Now the road has iced over, there are reports that at least one resident has been hospitalised having slipped off their motorbike and another vehicle narrowly avoided crashing after skidding on the ice.

Last year at the top of the road at the crossroads with Barnet Lane, a leak was also left for days until it also iced over causing car crashes which led to hospitalisations and brought Elstree Village to gridlock as the road was closed.

Needless fresh water loss, safety issues, potential fatalities.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We urge you to immediately take the following steps before further serious injuries occur or lives are lost:

1)     The source of the water leak is identified and stopped immediately.

2)     You engage with any private landowners from where the leak may be emanating in order to fix the problem.

3)     Signage is erected warning drivers and pedestrians of the danger

4)     The road and footpath (a busy pedestrian route from the bus stop) is gritted until the matter is resolved.
