"Dear [Councillor’s name here, or Mayor and Councillors, if you're not in Kitchener],

Re: Deferring your decision on the land bordering the Huron Natural Area

I am a resident in your ward [if applicable], and I’m writing to urge you to defer the proposed Industrial Business Park subdivision (Application Number: 30T-23201) at 1700 Strasburg Road.

On October 27th, Councillor Chapman requested deferral at the Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee meeting, asking:

1. That the City look into the claims of misinformation in the Environmental Impact Study

2. That the City attempt to resolve the disagreement with Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council's recommendations provided during consultation

3. That the City seek out data on Kitchener's industrial building vacancy rates to properly gauge the need for this subdivision and development

The committee chose to proceed anyway, which is of significant concern to me as a taxpayer. I expect my elected government to be informed with accurate information, and to take public consultation seriously.

The proposed development would destroy wetlands full of wildlife, and cut down 700 trees, despite commitments to tree canopy improvements.  It would also severely impact wildlife within Huron Natural Area itself.

I urge you to defer this decision, and amend the plan to listen to Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council, Kitchener residents, and third-party environmental academic and professional experts who have concerns.

I plan to vote for a representative who takes the climate crisis and threats to species and habitat destruction seriously, and values preservation over destruction.

Sincerely,
[your name... and address with postal code, if youre in Kitchener proper]
