Stop the development of a child care centre in our neighbourhood
The issue
To Liverpool City Council and the relevant planning authorities,
We, the undersigned residents and members of the local community, respectfully object to the proposed construction and opening of a Childcare Centre on 105 Nineteenth Avenue, Hoxton Park NSW 2171.
Our primary concern is the suitability of this location and the significant impact the development is likely to have on traffic, parking, congestion and the safety of local residents and children.
The proposed site is located within a cul-de-sac, which already experiences considerable traffic and parking pressure due to the sporting fields connected to the area. During sporting activities, the existing road network and available parking are already heavily utilised, creating congestion and difficulties for residents, visitors and families attending the sporting fields.
Introducing a Childcare Centre into this already constrained location would be expected to substantially increase the number of vehicles entering and leaving the area, particularly during peak morning and afternoon periods. This would add further pressure to an area that is already struggling with parking and traffic management.
A childcare centre would generate regular vehicle movements from parents and carers dropping off and collecting children, as well as staff movements, deliveries and other associated traffic. In a cul-de-sac with limited parking and an existing sporting facility, we are concerned that this could result in:
*Increased traffic congestion, particularly during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
*Significant additional demand for on-street parking.
*Vehicles parking illegally or obstructing driveways and access points.
*Increased difficulty for emergency vehicles accessing the area when required.
*Increased risk to children and pedestrians due to higher vehicle movements.
*Greater conflict between childcare traffic and vehicles attending the sporting fields.
*Additional noise and disruption for surrounding residents.
*Further deterioration of an already difficult parking and traffic situation.
*We understand and appreciate the importance of quality childcare services within our community. *However, the need for childcare does not outweigh the importance of selecting an appropriate and safe location for such a development.
We believe that a development of this nature should be located where there is adequate road capacity, sufficient off-street parking and appropriate traffic infrastructure to safely accommodate the additional vehicle movements it will create.
The existing issues associated with the sporting fields demonstrate that this location is already under considerable pressure. Adding a high-traffic use such as a childcare centre risks making an existing problem significantly worse.
We therefore respectfully request that Liverpool City Council and the relevant authorities reject the proposed Childcare Centre at 105 Nineteenth Avenue, Hoxton Park NSW 2171, or at the very least undertake a thorough and independent assessment of the cumulative traffic, parking, pedestrian and safety impacts before any approval is granted.
We ask that the concerns of the local residents and wider community be carefully considered and that the safety, accessibility and amenity of the area remain a priority.
We respectfully urge Council to reject this proposal and seek a more suitable location for the proposed Childcare Centre.
Signed,
Residents and members of the Hoxton Park community.
