The Issue

I live directly in front of a beautiful, cherished park in Lake Country called Gable Beach Park , an essential green space that enhances the beauty and livability of our community. Now, it's under threat because the city plans to rip it out to make space for vehicles with boat trailers. Initially they planned on 8 stalls , after talking with them they reduced it to 5 . I am perplexed as to why so many stalls are needed since we do not have a proper boat launch area . Our boat launch was only meant for emergency watercraft in the first place and this planned destruction is not just a loss for our community; it would directly devalue my home, which I have lovingly maintained over the years, counting on the serene view and neighborhood charm that the park provides.

I believe they want to use our Park as overflow to take the pressure off of Coral Beach which is the main boat launch area with a concrete ramp for boats to get in and out . Coral beach has only 3 stalls for vehicle with trailers . It begs the question why city of lake country wanted to put in 8 stalls in a park the size of a postage stamp.

Gable Beach park is also in the Riparian area , which also makes this concerning for everyone who wants to save this land . Wildlife use this space on a ongoing basis.

Parks are vital to our community's well-being, offering a place for children to play, families to gather, and everyone to enjoy nature's peace amidst our busy lives. Studies show that urban green spaces significantly improve mental health, providing a necessary respite from the urban hustle. Additionally, properties near parks have consistently held higher values, contributing to overall neighborhood prosperity.

The proposed parking lot would not only eliminate this valued green space but also increase traffic, noise, and pollution in an area cherished for its tranquility. The loss of the park would be a blow to our environment and quality of life, tarnishing what makes Gable Beach Park  special.

We have alternatives. The city could explore other options for parking solutions, such as enhancing existing parking areas.

Let us come together as a community to preserve the beauty and function of this cherished space. We urge the city officials to reconsider their decision and protect our park. Every signature makes a difference and adds weight to our cause.

Please sign this petition to stop the destruction of our park in favor of parking stalls with boat trailers and protect the essence of our community.
