Fatou’s removal, which was scheduled for today, has been suspended – for now! She remains imprisoned in Derwentside IRC and was not put on a flight to Gambia this evening. This is thanks to the powerful wave of solidarity from so many of you, both online and on the ground. Thank you.

But this fight is far from over.

Fatou is still being held in detention with no idea about when she will be released or what lies ahead. Her lawyer continues to work on her legal case.

Today, 23 April (6–8pm), These Walls Must Fall and Migrants Organise are hosting an online rally to honour Fatou’s courage, resilience, and unwavering compassion – not just for herself, but for others enduring the brutality of immigration detention.

The rally will involve contributions from people and groups who know Fatou and are standing alongside her in the fight for justice and safety in the UK.

Together, we will continue to organise for freedom, dignity, and justice – for Fatou, and for everyone forced to endure the violence of the immigration system while simply trying to build a life.
