Stop the Deportation of Elijah Nyakabe Ayaye – His Life Is at Risk

Stop the Deportation of Elijah Nyakabe Ayaye – His Life Is at Risk
The Issue
Sign to urge CBSA and the Government of Canada to immediately halt Elijah’s deportation and allow him to stay on humanitarian grounds.
Elijah Nyakabe Ayaye, 52, is originally from the village of Nyachogochogo in Kenya. He immigrated to Canada on October 9, 2019, after fleeing his home country due to threats from a well-known militia group called the Chinkororo Group. This group demanded money and ownership of his land, and when he refused, they threatened to kill him.
Elijah is a deeply kind, respectful, and compassionate man, is facing deportation to Kenya on August 8, 2025. Despite his fragile mental health, long-standing community ties, and the grave danger he faces if returned, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued a deportation order and already booked his flight to Nairobi.
Elijah is not a threat to anyone. On the contrary—he is a peaceful, generous soul known by many in the community shelter system as someone who always looks out for others. He checks on fellow clients, listens to those who are struggling, and brings a sense of calm and dignity to those around him.
Why this deportation must be stopped:
- Mental Health Risk: Elijah has well-documented mental health issues. Deporting him into a volatile situation without proper support is not only dangerous—it’s inhumane. He was recently advised to refill his medication before departure, indicating serious concern about continuity of care.
- Life-Threatening Conditions in Kenya: If deported, Elijah is at significant risk of being arrested, persecuted, or harmed upon arrival. There are specific threats to his life that cannot be ignored. Sending him back would be tantamount to putting his life in immediate danger.
- Community Member in Canada: Elijah has built a life here. He is more than just a name on a file—he is part of our social fabric. He has shown extraordinary kindness to shelter residents, support workers, and volunteers. He embodies the values Canada claims to uphold: peace, compassion, and dignity.
- He Deserves Protection, Not Removal: Canada is a signatory to international agreements that prohibit returning individuals to danger. Deporting Elijah now would go against the principles of humanitarian protection and mental health equity.
Details of Deportation (Urgent):
- Elijah is scheduled to be removed to Nairobi on August 8, 2025.
- He has been told that CBSA officers and a nurse will escort him.
- He is expected to fend for himself after landing, using a small amount of money CBSA will provide for travel to his village.
- A final meeting is set for August 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at CBSA Mississauga.
- Elijah is currently depressed and emotionally distressed, and this situation is severely affecting his mental health.
If you would like to support Elijah further, you can also donate to his fundraiser here: Elijah's Fundraiser. Contributions will go directly toward legal assistance to try to stop Elijah’s removal.
