STOP THE DEMOLITION OF COTTAGES AT POINT TRAVERSE BY CANADA WILDLIFE SERVICE & FED. GOV’T

The Issue

For over 200+ years before the founding of Canada. There has been Commercial Fishing at Point Traverse. Millions of pounds of fish over the years have been harvested and to this day around 100,000-120,000 is caught annually out of the harbour. Long ago leases were put in place cottages and net sheds were put up so that the fisherman could yield their catch and have their gear easily accessible with overnight accommodations.

In 1978 Canada Wildlife services inevitably took over Point Traverse and the leased lots the fisherman had in their possession. With the guarantee from the Honourable Len Marchand that the leases would remain and fishing could continue on.

In 2013 a person named Andrea Kettle with CWS came into power her role is team manager for CWS.. She revoked a transfer of leases between Tim McCormack and Dorothy Aman and tore down an immaculate cottage and net shed. For no reason other than to satisfy her own personal ambition. Now she has targeted the remaining leaseholders.

They have now seized all the remaining cottages and net sheds. Boarded them up and put entry prohibited signs everywhere around Point Traverse.

If Canada Wildlife Service succeeds, not only will it destroy 200+ years of history and a noble tradition passed down to now a 5th generation actively fishing from Point Traverse. The supply of fish that’s harvested is very important especially when food is so expensive this resource is shipped everywhere in Canada and around the world.

By signing this petition you are in turn helping the Commercial Fisherman of Point Traverse harbour. Saving 200+ years of history and showing support to the leaseholders who are fighting to reclaim them.

Together, we can protect what is irreplaceable. Thank you for reading!
