Stop the demolition of 9972 Third Street

The Issue

The apartment buildings at 9960 and 9972 Third Street were built by Charles and May Turner, for which the first building was named after when finished in 1958 – the “Charmay” apartments. A few years later in 1962, the Turner’s finished the Seacrest building. These buildings are currently slated for demolition, and despite being poorly maintained are still functional. The lack of maintenance of these building devalues them to support speculative development, such as the development currently proposed to replace the buildings. This is arguably wasteful, and puts more pressure on the need for affordable rental housing.

Demoviction’s are a risk to tenants in Sidney, despite the existence of Sidney’s Tenant Assistance Policy. Although triggered by a recent rezoning, the protections under this policy have not yet been offered to the remaining tenants, nor were they notified a demolition permit had be applied for on April 1, 2025. Please write to the Town of Sidney to let them know this is not acceptable:
