Continued Concerning Decisions at the Top

The president has sent an unexpected and seemingly arbitrary directive to faculty requiring $3 million in budget cuts in the middle of the fiscal year, while students are attending classes and programs are running. WVC still does not have an approved budget for this fiscal year, which is nearly half over. Doing this mid year adds stress to an already challenging situation. Faculty and staff are being asked to absorb significant cuts, while the president’s own travel budget has more than doubled over the previous years.

This follows a period of high turnover: nearly 50% of staff have left, and the business office has been significantly affected after the firing of the Vice President of Administration and the resignation of the Director of Finance. Mid-year cuts of this size could put programs and student success at risk and may draw attention from accreditors. Leadership should focus on stability, transparency, and supporting students — not imposing major cuts while increasing administrative resources.

Many in the community feel that the president does not lead by example, applies rules inconsistently, and fails to listen to faculty and staff. Given the current situation, there is a strong argument that his contract should not be renewed. We respectfully urge the Board to NOT renew Faimous Harrison’s contract.
