Save Downtown MenloMenlo Park, CA, United States
Nov 2, 2025

Tuesday's 6pm City Council Meeting is crucial for downtown Menlo Park.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

Our Citizens’ Initiative proposes a law, the Downtown Parking Plazas Ordinance, which would prohibit the City from repurposing the parking plazas without a public vote.

On Tuesday, City Council can decide to adopt our ordinance or instead put it on a future ballot. If they adopt it, Menlo Park residents gain the right to vote before the parking lots are repurposed. But if Council opts to put it on a ballot, we will have to wait up to a year for an election – just to vote on whether we get to vote.

We’re urging Council to adopt the ordinance now.

HOW TO HELP (YOU’LL LOOK GOOD IN BLUE!)

1 - Email City Council Now

Give your perspective and ask that the Downtown Parking Plazas ordinance be adopted. city.council@menlopark.gov

Or use this link to send a pre-written email that you can edit. We recommend adding information about yourself and why this matters to you - but sending as-is is okay too. (If the link didn't work, you can copy the text at the end of this update)

2 - Attend the Council Meeting - Wear Blue!

Tuesday, Nov. 4, 6:00 PM | 701 Laurel St.
Speaking would help, but just being there in blue will signal support.

Subject: I trust the people of Menlo Park.

Body:

Mayor Combs and City Council Members,

I support more affordable housing in Menlo Park. In the right locations, it will strengthen our community.

But our community is built around a shared downtown — and the downtown depends on the public parking plazas. Repurposing those plazas would be a once-in-a-generation decision with extreme consequences.

On this decision, I trust the people of Menlo Park to do what's best for the town in which they live.

I therefore urge you to adopt the Downtown Parking Plazas Ordinance, giving residents the right to vote on the future of their downtown.

Thank you for your service in representing the people of Menlo Park.
