Stop the Cuts: Fund Queensland’s Domestic Violence, Housing and Homelessness Services!
The issue
Domestic violence, housing and homelessness services save lives and support Queenslanders in crisis.
But these services are already stretched, with workers facing rising demand, insecure funding and increasing pressure. Funding cuts, lapsing programs and funding that does not keep up with the cost of living will mean fewer frontline workers, longer wait times and less support for people who urgently need help.
The Queensland LNP Government has:
❌ Cut $38 million from DFV prevention
❌ Cut specialist DFV prevention staff
❌ Scrapped a dedicated DFV housing program
❌ Failed to provide additional funding for frontline services despite rising demand
❌ Disbanded the statewide Domestic Violence Support Unit
❌ Failed to publicly report on implementation of the taskforce recommendations
❌ Refused to establish a Police Integrity Unit
❌ Scrapped independent oversight of the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce
Domestic and family violence and homelessness are connected. Without safe housing and specialist support, women and children escaping violence can be placed at even greater risk. Stronger prevention funding means safer homes, safer families, and safer communities.
The Services Union calls on the Queensland Government to:
✅ Reverse any cuts to domestic violence, housing and homelessness services
✅ Improve and secure ongoing funding for frontline programs
✅ Properly index funding to meet rising costs and minimum award wage increases for all community services workers
✅ Protect specialist frontline jobs
✅ Improve investment in prevention and crisis, transitional, social and affordable housing
✅ Stop the cuts. Fund the frontline. Keep Queenslanders safe.
The Services Union represents members in the Social and Community Services Industry, including workers in Domestic and Family Violence, Housing and Homelessness Services.
