Save the Old Growth Trees and Alzheimer Awareness Garden on Hooker Road!!!

The Issue

The City of Wilmington has proposed a plan to mow down a significant portion of private and public property on Hooker Road in an excessive effort to add another “connection” of the Cross City Trail That will span from Wrightsville Ave. to Mallard Drive.

Despite the fact the residents are opposed, and there are already several bike paths and sidewalks connecting the Mike Alford Bridge to the Cross City Trailhead off Mallard Drive, they are continuing to move forward with the project that will obliterate countless precious old growth trees, negatively impact storm water drainage (likely causing flooding), and cut away a portion of the community’s beloved Alzheimers Awareness Garden.

The area has not been officially surveyed for foot or bike traffic according to local residents, and the project seems highly suspicious and unnecessary, given there are already several connections easily accessible to all between trailheads.

Please show your support by signing the petition to help advocate for the old growth trees, the community garden, and to help residents have a voice against big developers.

Below you can find the only information provided about the project:
