Stop the construction of Trump Tower on the Gold Coast

Stop the construction of Trump Tower on the Gold Coast
The issue
I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of a Trump Tower on the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland. This magnificent region, known for its stunning beaches and vibrant local culture, is at risk of losing its charm and integrity if this project goes ahead.
Donald Trump, the figure behind this development, is not just a controversial figure politically; he is a convicted criminal. His moral and legal missteps are well-documented. Trump has been adjudicated as a rapist and appears numerous times in the Epstein files as a suspected pedophile. Furthermore, he was denied a casino licence in New South Wales due to suspected ties with organised crime.
Trump is banned from from applying for loans from New York based banks, and banned from corporate leadership roles in New York state. The Trump Foundation was shut down by the court for stealing money from a charity. Some banks, including JPMorgan, closed Trump-related accounts after his January 6 insurrection attempt. His companies were bankrupted on six separate occasions, including hotels and casinos.
The implications of welcoming such an individual into our community are grave. This project threatens to overshadow our local heritage, values, and could potentially tie us to a regime corrupted by dubious ethics and shady business dealings. Not to mention, the impact such an enormous development could have on our environment is concerning. Do we really want to risk our pristine coastlines becoming overrun with tourists drawn only by the infamy of a name?
Beyond the environmental and social factors, there is a significant risk to our local economy. History has shown that areas heavily influenced by Trump's developments often see the displacement of local businesses, skyrocketing property prices, and a sharp increase in income inequality. This is not the future we wish for our beloved Gold Coast. Click here to see some of the places around the world where this has happened.
Mr Trump has also started a trade war with Australia, by imposing 15% tariffs on everything we produce, and greater tariffs on aluminium and steel. He is deliberately causing damage to our economy, and yet Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate wants to reward him for this by allowing such a massive business venture at great cost to the Australian people. We should not be erecting a monument honouring a person who has shown great hostility towards us.
By halting the development of a Trump Tower, we preserve our moral and social integrity, protect our economy, and safeguard our local environment. Let's prevent the Gold Coast from becoming synonymous with controversy and scandal. Join me in ensuring our coast remains a haven for locals and visitors alike - untainted by associations with moral and criminal wrongdoing.
